Joe Santucci’s Original Square Pizza

It all started in 1959 with the drive and love of the late Joseph N. Santucci and his wife Philomena for Old World Tradition. Remember the many renowned local Italian bakery shops that lined the streets of Philadelphia in the 1950s. It was a revolutionary idea by Joe Santucci to serve the legendary square dough creation topped with homemade tomato gravy. He would soon transform this neighborhood specialty into something uniquely his own.

A Philadelphia tradition

Using an old family recipe and the influence of his immigrant roots, Joe turned the pizza business in Philadelphia upside down by introducing a new pizza made the real Italian way – cheese on the bottom and sauce on top.

To stand apart from local pizzerias, Joe added high-quality ingredients, unique baking techniques, and a distinctive square shape just like the old local bakeries. It was an immediate sensation!

One father’s vision is now a son’s passion!

Today, Joe Santucci’s oldest son Joseph carries on this 50 year old tradition. Dedicated to the same standard of excellence, Joe Santucci still uses his father’s original pizza recipe.

With expanding menus and more, the legacy of Joe Santucci’s Square Pizza continues through his son Joseph, Jr., wife Nadine, and their 2 children, Joseph III and Natalie Philomena.
